Nicolson Square Edinburgh (NSE), part of Central Hall Venues group, today announces that it has awarded a contract to the innovative start-up catering company, Eats. The company has been appointed by NSE to run all event and retail catering services. The new contract for the historic central Edinburgh conference and events venue includes the provision of an 80-seat café called ‘Eats at The Well Café’ – open all day and into the evening, six days a week to the general public, event delegates and visitors.

For conferences and events, Eats will offer several hospitality day packages to choose from, which cater for all dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free. All ingredients are of the highest quality and sourced with as few food miles as possible within Scotland.

Eats launched as a new business in 2021 during COVID lockdown as Edinburgh’s first multi-food and dessert drive-thru and by February 2022, it had already opened a second unit in Edinburgh’s Tollcross which also included a sit-in café and takeaway. The catering company’s philosophy to provide a welcoming and high-quality service, sustainability and as little food waste as possible, fits perfectly with NSE’s own ethos within the CHV group of venues which are all situated within active Methodist churches. The venues’ close ties with Methodism ensure all suppliers uphold the same values of integrity, ethics and sustainability, where diversity is celebrated.

As well as high-quality coffees, snacks and a range of desserts, Eats will be offering daily specials for meal items in the café, which will be open from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 8am to 9pm and on Sundays from 9am to 9pm. The new catering contract has created nine new jobs within the core team with more team members enlisted on a demand basis for events of all sizes at the venue up to 250 people.

NSE is the third location for Eats in the Edinburgh area and the company has an ambitious expansion plan to increase its presence at more events venues and outlets in Edinburgh and Scotland.

Deborah Gallagher, Head of Venue at NSE, comments: “We are delighted to welcome Eats to Nicolson Square Edinburgh at a very exciting time for the venue as we begin to welcome an even greater range of events. The catering is an important part of any event and we know Eats holds the same values as ours on great service, sustainability and ethics.”

“The Eats at the Well Café will be a very welcome addition to the catering services at NSE, a great place to come and catch up for a coffee meeting, lunch or even a bite to eat in the evening. It will soon become an integral part of our thriving community here at NSE,” she adds.

Rory Fairgrieve, Co-Owner of Eats, comments: “We are thrilled to be launching our catering service at Nicolson Square Edinburgh, offering unrivalled service and a high-quality product to both visitors to our café and event delegates alike. For us, it is vital that people leave feeling great about both our service and our food to create a memorable experience.”

“As a young company with big expansion plans for Edinburgh and beyond, Nicolson Square Edinburgh is a key player in an exciting journey for us,” he concludes.
